Vero Beach
Rated one of America’s Best Small Towns, John's Island is proud to call the charming seaside community of Vero Beach home. Located “where the tropics begin,” ocean breezes prevail and moderate temperatures average 78 degrees. Welcoming both residents and visitors, the quaint town represents 12 square miles within the county, and offers 23 miles of sandy beach along the Atlantic Ocean. This warm and welcoming town is geographically divided by the scenic Indian River, with the land east of the river referred to as the barrier island (beachside), and the land west of the river, the mainland.
Occupying seven miles of ocean frontage just north of Vero Beach, Indian River Shores is an environmentally protected, oak-hammock area that is home to 3,400 affluent residents, almost half of which represent John's Island residents.
Vero Beach offers a multitude of cultural options, sporting activities, exclusive shopping and fine dining. Not only do John's Islanders relish community events, but young families also find the educational opportunities reassuring. Located within minutes of the community is the highly acclaimed private Saint Edward’s School. Environmental protection and education are also key attributes of Vero Beach. The Environmental Learning Center and the McKee Botanical Gardens attest to the local community’s concern for preserving native plants and animals.
All would agree that the experience is not complete without shopping for unique treasures along Vero’s beachside, enjoying quality restaurants, specialty shops and boutiques, the nationally recognized Vero Beach Museum of Art, and the Riverside Theater. Banks, professional services, medial offices, churches and gourmet beach markets are all available to those residing on the beach side. The Indian River Memorial Hospital, which has partnered with Duke University to bring a world-class Cardiac Center to the area, is located just over the bridge on the mainland. In addition to offering the finest citrus in the world, Vero Beach is the spring training camp for the famous MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers.
Incorporated in 1919, Vero Beach is the county seat of Indian River County where approximately 327,000 acres are used for agricultural purposes with the largest percentage in pastures and ranges, followed by citrus acreage, row crops, forest acres and woodlands. An intimate community blossoming with history and understated culture, Vero Beach and John's Island welcome you.
